History
The Aston Martin DB2, produced from May 1950 to April 1953, was a huge success for Aston Martin. A total of 308 examples of the Saloon and 98 examples of the Drop Head Coupé were produced. Already in the beginning of the production, it became clear that the DB2 needed a successor with improvements. The Aston Martin DB2/4 was launched at the London Motor Show in 1953.
This Aston Martin was built between April 1953 and October 1955. Compared with the DB2, a major improvement was fitting in a fold-down rear seat. This seemingly simple change brought a lot of adjustments to the chassis, the fuel system and spare tire space. Another major improvement was a boot lid which facilitated the loading and unloading of luggage. Other improvements were the single-part windscreen, larger rear side windows and higher placed headlights. The instrument panel was changed with a centrally placed odometer and tachometer.
The Aston Martin DB 2/4 MKII was introduced at the London Motor Show in October 1955. It was the same chassis and mechanical specification as the DB2/4. Fitted as standard, was the 2.922cc engine, which developed 140 bhp.
All in all 199 MK II's were built, 145 saloons, 16 drophead coupés, 34 fixed head coupés and four others.
This Aston Martin DB2/4 MKII was delivered new in the UK on 1 May 1957. The only information available till 1996 is from an Aston Martin Competition Record in the Jubilee Year 1970, showing that Mr. Woodhead had driven the AMOC Hill climb in 63 seconds.
In 1996, the then owner Mr. Harding started to build up the history record and after enjoying the Aston Martin for a period, he sold the DB2/4 to Mr. Bunting. He enjoyed the car for about 3 years after which she was offered to the market again. The current owners bought the Aston Martin DB2/4 in 2001 and went up to UK to collect her and drive her home themselves to Germany.
The German owners have the DB2/4 now in possession for more than 22 years and have kept the Aston Martin in good driving condition. In 2001 the Aston was directly brought to a specialist to check the engine, gearbox and test the car, the total investment back then was Euro 22.000,-.
Till 2019 included the overall investment in the Aston was around Euro 40.000,- for tires, engine and cylinder head overhaul, brake system, shock absorbers, 10.000 km service and so on.
Because of the desire to reduce their Aston Martin collection, this DB2/4 MKII comes for sale.
