Beschrijving
Very nice Rover P6B with 3500 cc V8 engine and BW35 automatic 3-speed transmission.
This type of Rover won the Car of the Year award in 1964 and was very advanced for its time, with a monocoque chassis, de Dion rear axle (both known from the Citroën DS, but without the hydraulic problems), horizontal suspension, and disc brakes all round.
The car had two previous owners: the first, between 1971 and 2009, was a Swiss owner, and the car was registered in Zurich; the second owner imported the car to Germany, to Paderborn, and owned it between 2009 and 2020. I am the third owner, since 2020.
The car is always parked indoors, is only driven in good weather (so no rain or salted roads) and has no rust in the usual places (see photos, I can also take more photos if desired).
The exterior is Mexico Brown with black vinyl on the C-pillar. The glass is fitted with light-tinted Sundym glass. One drawback that I should mention right away: the previous owner had the doors repainted in a slightly different color, and not quite perfectly.
The interior is beige Buckskin from Connolly Leather in the familiar combination with beige vinyl for the door panels and dashboard. The seats, including the rear seats, have the familiar ET headrests! Everything is original and in very good condition, with the patina of 50 years, of course. After 50 years, the carpets were in need of replacement (with the best will in the world, this could no longer be called patina), so last summer, at 81,000 km, they were replaced with new anti-drumming foil, sound-absorbing material, and wool carpets. I did not encounter any rust during the replacement! I can also send photos of this on request.
The dashboard is neat and complete, including rear window heating and hazard lights. The windshield wipers have an advanced and very well-functioning vacuum interval setting. Everything is intact and works perfectly.
The original cover over the spare wheel is present, as is the standard cover for the battery.
The engine runs smoothly, starts immediately, and has fresh oil and an oil filter. Power steering overhaul was performed at 78,000 km in 2021, and a starter motor overhaul at 79,000 km in 2023. Disc brakes and handbrake work perfectly. I did the “cosmetic” maintenance myself, and had the bigger technical issues taken care of by the well-known names in Mechelen. A fairly complete maintenance history is available. “New features”: the previous owner fitted the P6 with an electric fuel pump in the engine compartment (never had any vacuum problems) and electronic ignition from Pertronix instead of the original mechanical one.
It is the engine with 1:10.5 compression (1971 was the transition year, new interior with the old high-compression engine), so I always fill up with 98 with lead substitute. The car runs at about 1:10 on the highway, and I mainly use it for longer highway trips. With the torque of the V8, the car easily and comfortably keeps up with today's traffic!
Includes user manual, garage workshop manual, and original jack/tools.
In short: a fairly original, complete, and technically very good Rover P6 3500 with a very nice interior.
Asking price 16.950 euro.
